Recharging dead system with "Freeze 12"

Recharging dead system with "Freeze 12"

I just bought this 79 928 and the guy didn't think to tell me that it had a couple of leaks in the ac. I carry it to a local mech. who gave me a price of $225.00 to repair a line and replace the expansion valve (parts not included), $130.00 to charge the system. So for the good news, I took the line off and carried it to the local parts store $10 to fix the line, put it back on. Ordered an expansion valve from Dave Roberts (Great Guy) $29.00 and put it on. Picked up some of the new Freeze 12 (suppose to be completely compatable with R12) at the parts store 7.89 a can as compaired to R12 23.00 a can. Pulled a good vacum on the system and charged with two cans of freeze 12. Total cost... around 60.00. The moral to this story is I saved 295.00 by doing a little work anyone should be able to do.
