Check your Headlight Actuator Today!

Got my Shark back from the mechanic ( T-belt, Water pump, belts & hoses, Spark plugs, wires caps and rotors, Control unit and four new tires ) it ran great for two days. Late night of the second day I get in the car and turn on the lights and they won't come up, so I try turning them off and on a few times and no luck. So I turn on my fog lights and home I go. The next morning I get it and it's dead ( no power ) Saturday I get up pop the hood and the actuator arm that lifts the headlight bar was no longer attached and has rammed it's self into my radiator ( now leaking ) My mechanic says they don't touch that part when they take the radiator out to do the t-belt & water pump.

It is not necessary to remove the headlight motor actuator arm when removing the radiator, most likely the "c-clip" was already missing from the actuator arm and it was just a coincidence that it came loose or was bumped during your repairs. In my experience 8 out of 10 928s I see are missing either one or both of the "c-clips" that keep the headlight motor actuating arm in place.

I recommend for everyone to take a quick look the next time they have their hood up to check to see if the "c-clips" are on the upper and lower ends of the headlight motor actuator arm. If this $.0.50 part is missing it can seriously decrease your Christmas Present money in a hurry.

My headlight assembly decided not to cooperate last night. Looks like the c-clip fell of the arm. Can anyone please advise me the size of this clip ? I need to fix it befoe the sun goes down. Thanks much.

The c-clip is called a "lock ring" - pt # 900 116 009 01 - noted as 8mm x 6mm ID the corresponding washer is 12mm x 6mm ID be very careful with these lock rings. The connecting pushrod from the wipermotor arm to the cross shaft, if it comes off at the top and if you cycle the motor it will push a hole through the core of the radiator -- if the bottom connection comes off the motor arm moves without damage --I think you got lucky
