Redline Gear Oil Recommendation

Redline Gear Oil Recommendation

I've had my '83' 928 5 speed' for about 6 years now, and it needed syncros the day I bought it. But with careful driving (shifting) it hasn't been a big problem, and I hope to fix the syncros some day. Anyway, over the last 6 years I have tried several different gear oils in the trans, all with very little improvement. Well with the advice of this list I thought I would try Redline 75w90ns gear oil to see if it is as good as everyone says. What a big difference it made. Much smoother shifting and down shifting. Smoother in the morning and all day. So if you got and older 5 speed with notchy and grinding syncros, check out Redline.

Do you mind a low groan on tight corners (e.g., out of the driveway)? With 75W-90 =96 3.5 qts. NS & 1 qt. regular 75W-90, I get some groans. (This gives a little more lockup (NS is not slippery) and I'm told the
groan isn't harmful.) To avoid funny noises, you might want to go with 2 or 3 qts regular and the rest NS. The NS helps the synchros so all regular probably isn't optimal.
