Front Door Speaker Replacement
The front door speakers offer very little mounting depth. A decent driver can be installed into the existing opening, using the factory panel bolt pattern (4 7/16") with the addition of a spacer. Choose a replacement driver that is round. At "HOME DEPOT" find a 5" PVC coupler (5" OD, 4 1/2" ID). The Inner Diameter (4 1/2") will allow use of longer metal screws (1 1/2"). Cut the spacer rings at the added depth needed (probably 3/8", 1/2") . You may need to insulate the terminals to keep them from shorting against the door panel. Also, I'd bandlimit the low end to keep sympathetic door panel buzz to a minimum. This can be done by using a high-pass filter (basically just a capacitor of the proper value) in-line with the speaker wire.
